About HighQ
Field-tested with
real-world results
Many of HighQ’s engineers are pilots themselves, and the team has designed and flown systems on real aircraft, from spacecraft to supersonic jets to some of the largest aircraft ever built. That combination of hands-on flight experience and deep technical background is a credibility marker most competitors can’t claim.
Small, focused,
high-caliber team
HighQ operates as a small team with combined experience clients won’t find anywhere else. We lead your project from start to finish so you can stay focused on your mission.
Jeff Bozarth
Jeff Bozarth is an aerospace engineer and pilot who specializes in digital avionics, flight software, and flight test. At Scaled Composites he developed avionics for WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo, then architected the avionics system for the Stratolaunch Carrier Aircraft. As Lead Avionics Engineer at Boom Supersonic, he built and led the team that took the XB-1 demonstrator’s digital systems through flight test. In 2023 he founded HighQ to help aerospace companies get advanced flight systems ready to fly.
Rob Schaefer
Rob is a scientist turned engineer who earned his computer science degree and a PhD in Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology from the University of Minnesota, then did postdoctoral research in equine genomics as a USDA NIFA fellow. After feeling a rocket motor fire in the Mojave Desert, he left academia for experimental flight test. At Boom Supersonic he was the XB-1 team’s resident data scientist and primary instrumentation engineer, and he was on console in the control room for most of its flights, including the first flight and the supersonic flights. Outside work, he enjoys yoga and adventures with his wife and two cats.
Ben Lester
Ben is an electrical and computer engineer specializing in mixed-signal embedded systems for aerospace and robotics applications. He holds a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Oregon State University where he worked as Chief Pilot for Oregon State’s UAS program. He designed flight systems at MORSE Corp and led battery management and power electronics design at CAMX Power. At Hermeus, he owned avionics systems that took Quarterhorse Mk1 to first flight, then went on to lead the electrical engineering team for Quarterhorse Mk2.1.
Matt Kosman
Matt is an electrical engineer with experience in systems and PCB design, and he holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He started his aerospace career supporting electromagnetics testing on Boeing’s H-47 Chinook. At Boom Supersonic he was the responsible engineer for the XB-1 demonstrator’s Electrical Power System, and he also supported avionics, wiring design, and circuit development. Outside work, he enjoys personal electronics projects, fixing things, games, and cycling.
Why HighQ
Reliability Without Hand-Holding
Clients don’t want to manage the process. They want to hand off a problem and trust it gets resolved. That sense of being taken care of, rather than needing to direct every step, is what HighQ builds its engagements around.
Custom Solutions, Not Off-the-Shelf Fixes
What separates HighQ from a general electrical design or software shop is the ability to build systems from a blank page rather than adapting an off-the-shelf component, and to translate a loosely defined set of requirements into the right solution across multiple technical disciplines at once.
Rapid, Hands-On Approach
Hardware-in-the-loop testing is standard practice at HighQ, not an add-on. We design quickly and validate against real hardware early, so problems get caught on the bench instead of in the air.
